DS3 Equivalent to 28 T1 Lines
DS3 service at a signaling rate of 44.736 Mbps is the equivalent
of 28 T1 lines at their signaling rate of 1.544 Mbps. Because
of the strict synchronization of TDM services, 28 T1 lines may
be multiplexed into a single DS3 service.
Medical Imaging Transmission
Bandwidth
Medical images, such as those generated by Teleradiology equipment,
have large file sizes due to high resolution. Rapid transmission
between hospitals and medical centers requires high availability,
high bandwidth telecommunication services. For smaller offices
or infrequent use, a T1 data line or bonded T1 lines might suffice.
For medium and larger facilities, DS3, Fast Ethernet and OCx fiber
optic services are recommended.
Applications Demanding DS3
Bandwidth
DS3 transport is often used for real time video transport, high
resolution images, large engineering files, and data backups to
remote data centers. You can get this bandwidth through fiber
optic delivery or over copper coaxial lines, called T3 lines.
How DS3 Relates to OC3
DS3 is a digital signal level originally developed to support
the copper based T-Carrier digital telephone trunking system.
DS3 offers about 45 Mbps of bandwidth . OC3 is a SONET optical
carrier standard running at about 155 Mbps. An OC3 link can transport
up to 3 separate DS3 services.
Difference Between DSL and
DS3
DSL means Digital Subscriber Line and is a shared bandwidth service
offered on a "best effort" basis by telephone companies.
DS3 is a professional telecom service with a fixed bandwidth of
45 Mbps both upload and download. DS3 is usually sold with on
a contract with a service level agreement.
